83. do a ‘day in my life’ collage at least every 6 months for the duration of mission
This last 'day in my life' should have been done a few months ago, but I'll give myself credit anyways :)

Happö Bürkday

“Happö Bürkday” is an old birthday joke in my family, it’s what was written on my cake in Turkey on my second birthday. So, Happö Bürkday to me, I’ll knit me a vest! I started this last week when I was home sick from work ... and I did the final knitting, seaming, and button attaching last night.

At work today I got many birthday wishes ... carrot cake with candles, brownies, cards, and lots of "Happy Birthday!!" It was fun. Plus I ate my favorite lentil soup for lunch (I made it for dinner last night), yum!

I wore the vest to work today and got lots of compliments. It didn't fall apart or unseam. It didn't get paint on it when we painted with the kids. No one wiped their boogers on it either. The best part? It was *warm* and cozy. I love it :)

I will say ... it could use some pockets!

61. Knit myself a sweater (or vest)

32. go to the dentist: 02/02/09 i got a cleaning today! They found one cavity which is sad (it's my first cavity!), but it could have been worse.

progress has been made.

3. get science certification: have taken (and PASSED!) the required test. confusion has been sorted and I mailed the required amount of money. The new certificate arrived in the mail yesterday!! Woot Woot!

66. learn a new card game: played a game called Fluxx (the Monty Python version!) with friends. We've played it twice and it was lots of fun!

Things in the wings:
#61 I signed up for a ceramics class and it starts tomorrow!! I'm so excited, I'm already planning what I will wear - lol!
#32 We called a dentist and both hubby and I have an appointment scheduled. Mine is next Monday!

That puts my summary 51 completed / 13 I've failed / a bunch that I'm working on. Yeeehaawww

Things I want to do soon:
#48 read the panda book I got from the library. i'm already at 16/20 nonfiction books read - only 4 more!
#56 read some books onto CD!
#63 knit a vest in February (for my birthday!)
#67 play Clue!
#74 look through the telescope!
#88 go ice skating!

Final Stretch

Begin date: July 10, 2006
End date: April 6, 2009

Summary:
49 completed
14 "in progress" or "ongoing" (which at this point is really the same thing)
10 I've declared failed and there are several more headed this way.

...which leaves 24 unaccounted for. Hmm!

I've learned several things over the last 2 years ... one being that momentum really fades after the first year. I completed 30 goals in the first year alone, and my rate of completion/achievement went way down after that. I completed only 16 in the next year. Sure I could chalk it up to working on harder, more long term goals ... but that wasn't the whole reason. Some of the goals I've failed or still have remaining are simple little things like pick strawberries, catch fireflies, or fly a kite!

Another thing I've learned is that that numbers (read X books) are better than time frames (like 1/month) because they're more achievable if you're forgetful like me - more success and less failure. I hope I complete more than I fail for this mission and I seem to be at that crossroads with 49 completed.

an update.

I dug out the yellow notebook last night and took a look at the 101 goals I set for myself. I have made quite a bit of progress! I was able to mark off five as completed and several more in progress. As intimidating as it was to look at some of those goals (like 'read all the Caldecott/Newberry winners'), I was inspired to do a little research and move forward on other goals. Here's the recent "I'm proud of it" progress:

3. get science certification: registered for test, took 10-13-07. PASSED! Found information about paperwork that needs to be submitted to UofM to get the endorsement on my certificate.
6. sign contract for a teaching job -- on contract as a TA at the preschool as of May 2007. Tonight I decided to mark this as complete even though I didn't technically sign a contract (which seems weird to me), because my current job fulfills the heart of this goal - to successfully obtain a teaching job. I love my job and don't want to trade it in for anything!
13. pay back relative set 1 for loan: mailing the last check tomorrow morning!
33. start going to the Chiropractor: initial visit scheduled for 11/14 (that was today!) I'll count this as completed once I've finished the initial "diagnosis" visit and had 2-3 more visits.
60. knit 3 pairs of socks (at least two different patterns): two pairs have been completed and I'm working on the third! I hope to have the whole pair finished by early December to give as a birthday gift ... we shall see.
63. knit 5 Christmas presents: begun 10-06 – 4/5 completed. I'm currently planning 3 knit Christmas gifts this year, none are complete but they're in the works!

493 days have passed since I started the challenge, 38 goals are complete and another 26 are in progress in some way. I'm very pleased :) 508 days left!

socks. or at least sock.

I just finished sock number 1! Woo hoo! The heel feels sort of ... uneven where I picked up stitches, but perhaps with sock number 2 it will be better :) I can hardly wait for tomorrow and the chance to cast on the next one (though I don't know when that chance will come).

Just a few measurements to remember as I start the next one --
6" ribbing (though perhaps in the future try a little less ribbing - maybe 1" less - and do stockinette before the heel?)
5.5" along the bottom of the foot

Beware of the pickup stitches in the Gusset step, esp the ones furthest from the ribbing, that's where this sock is uneven!

Anyways ... now back to our regularly scheduled program ... bedtime!

my 101.

I found [info]mission101 sometime last week as I was browsing around and it looks interesting. The idea behind the community is to to make a list of 101 specific tasks to accomplish in 1001 days. The tasks are supposed to be specific, have measurable or clearly defined results, and require some effort on your part (growth! stretching!).

I know that I’m really fond of lists, crossing things off, and keeping track of my accomplishments, so perhaps that’s part of the appeal. And while 101 things seems like a lot to do, the fact that I have 2.75 years in which to do it makes it feel pretty manageable. Besides, there’s no way I’m going to think of 101 really boring things to do like “do the laundry” or “vacuum” so there are fun things on my list! (And what’s up with my funky quotation marks?! They’re all curvy instead of straight ...) Anyways, my list. I’m sharing it for the added benefits of accountability and conversation. Even if none of you bother to look at the list, I won’t know that! So now that I’ve said I’m going to do this, I’ve got to! Whoo! And I’m setting my start date as yesterday, our anniversary, because that’s the date I had been planning on, I just didn’t get to it yesterday.
